Holiday Craziness

Hey Friends! I hope you are enjoying your break as much as I am. I am currently in Cleveland, visiting family. It was the first time I flew in for the holidays, normally I drive, but it's about 7 hours and takes forever, so I had enough money this year to just fly and be one with it. Plus is a little extra visiting time. :)
So I wanted to quickly share with you a couple pictures of our last week before break. (finally getting around to that now)
We have begun basic addition and subtraction, and I found some cute ideas on pinterest. They loved these mugs..and getting to eat some marshmallows!

We rotated classrooms the last day in the morning and each teacher talked about Christmas traditions in other countries. I picked Germany, so we used our 5 senses to explore gingerbread cookies. :)

For math workshops, the kids worked with their partners to play a dice game to build Rudolph. They loved it, and we played a couple rounds.

At the end of the day, we had a little celebration and made santas with cotton balls, then pigged out on fruits, juice and chips. :)

Ok, well I'm off to do some shopping and girl time with my mom. :) Have a great rest of the week and weekend!

Freebie Christmas Addition/Subtraction!

Happy Sunday! I hope your weekend is going well. I am sitting here finishing up lesson plans for this last week and laughing at my husband and his friend acting like children with their nerf guns they bought...boys.

Anyway, I want to make this quick because I have to grocery shop and finish up some baking, but we are learning basic addition and subtraction this week and I wanted to add a Christmas twist on it. On Thursday we are going to play this game and I think the kids will like it. Laminate the cards and gather your students on the carpet, hold up one card at a time, and have them put their answers on the matching Santa. (or you can put this in a center to do independently.)
I've got a busy week ahead....our staff Christmas party is on Thursday and we are doing Secret Santa with each other all week. I can't wait to see what treat my mailbox will have in it each day! :) Have a wonderful week everyone!

Our Week and a Letter Freebie!

Hello Friends!Yay for Saturday! I had one of the worst weeks ever! :( I think the kids are anxious for a little break next week and they know Santa is coming, and it's just been a little crazy in class lately. But, we did manage to do some fun things this week...
1) We have been using Deanna Jump's math workstations and the kiddos love it..this week we played a match it shape game
2) in math, we have been learning about greater than, less than. To make it more hands on, I called out numbers and they had to show me with their sticks and cubes the answer. They loved this and were engaged the whole time :) (love those moments)
3) We read There was an Old lady who swallowed a pie and then they illustrated what they would want the old lady to swallow
4) We have been practicing for our Thanksgiving performance on Tuesday and one thing we're going to perform is a play, so they got to illustrate the pages in partners
5) We also read One is a Feast for Mouse and they had to sequence the food the mouse ate..this was tough for some!
6) Here is my recent school pic for this year! haha.

So my low reading group is still struggling with letters and I made this letter game to play with them for next month. It has just one of each letter and 3 "go again" cards. The game will be a quick game, but I think they will like it and it allows me to play multiple rounds with them. If you'd like to grab it, head over to my TPT store. It's FREE! :)

Ok, long post...I apologize! I'm off to finish our wedding albums for our parents' Christmas presents and then to get ready for the Florida Georgia Line concert in Greensboro! So excited! Have a great Saturday!

What fun on our Last Day!

Whew! I made it through the week! Today we got out early and here I am, about to make a cup of hot chocolate and work on centers for when we come back...yes, may sound a little crazy, but I want to print them out and laminate before we leave for Ohio on Saturday and I can rest easy that all school stuff will be done! ;)

Yesterday we made our gingerbread houses and I was prepared for a class full of crazy kids and super loud noise, but they actually did very well and stayed fairly quiet through the process. :)
look at his little tongue sticking out :) very much engrossed in the work!

gotta love sprinkles!!

can I have a heart shaped candy cane window too?! :)
And finally, this was the best gift of all from my co-teacher, I almost cried when I opened it..she had the kids each write me their "advice" for marriage while I was on my retreat 2 weeks ago then bound them together. Best keepsake ever and I think I will display it at the wedding! :D
love this one! :)

are you going to have a kid...yes or no?! lol

this one made me crack up!
Welp, off I go! Tomorrow my fiance's sister and brother in law will be coming in from SC to make the drive up with us so I'll be doing some cleaning and tidying. Have a great Friday!

What we Were up to Today...

Hey friends! Boy, have I got a terrible headache. It started right after breakfast today and hasn't quite. Thankfully we're having a breakfast dinner of french toast and then I'm gonna get my jammies on and rest. I just wanted to share a few things of what's been going on in the classroom...

we complete elf applications and wrote about being an elf and my asst. put them in the hallway :)

We also watched Santa feed the reindeer after writer's workshop today and boy we're the kids sooo excited! Haha, they could have watched it all day.

And finally we read Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and completed a beginning, middle and end graphic organizer and you can grab a copy FREE! Just click on the pic.  :)

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday! Half way through the week and a day and a half to go for us!

Letters From Santa! and a Freebie!

Hey everyone! I am still in shock and sadness over the events of this weekend, but we opted not to even discuss it with our kiddos. They came in bright and cheery today and I was grateful for their little hugs and smiles. :)

Last week, my co-teacher and I had them write letters to Santa then we "delivered" them and on Friday, they got a package via our little elf Toby with letters addressed to each child! Boy we're they squealing with delight!

Also, we put together our goodie bags to give out on Thursday. We have a half day that day which is wonderful! I am so ready to hit the road back to Ohio and for a whole week this time, not just a few days! :)
I printed up the tags via A Modern Teacher :) So adorable!
Finally, I created a rhyming pocket chart center for our stations this week. It's a skill that often get over looked for us, but it's nice to review once in a while. Click on the pic to snag a copy! :)

I hope everyone has a good week. I'm sure this is the last week of school for break for many of you so hope it's filled with fun and laughter. :)

Hard Workin' Elves

Hey friends! We've been busy this week with Christmas Around the World and our Elf on the Shelf Toby has been popping up in unexpected places all week! Here's what he'll be doing tomorrow...

In math, we're making different crafts to go with our supply and demand unit we're studying. We grouped the kids into groups and told them from now until next tuesday they are elves at the north pole and they get to make different crafts (they all tie in with math standards) then on tuesday, we're going to "buy" them.
making reindeer

christmas tree glyph

making cards with base ten pictures

bank that they will keep their "money" in until they spend it
alright, that's it for now! Time to eat and then I've got motivation to get on the treadmill tonight and work out a bit. :) Have a great night and good friday tomorrow!

Linky Parties Galore!

Hi Sweet Friends! I was so excited to wake up and see how many awesome linky parties will be going on the next few weeks! I will probably be on my computer non-stop grabbing these freebies! :) Plus it put me in such a good mood since this girl is nursing a sinus infection and achy body. :( (and my wisdom teeth are trying to break through)

Before I link up with my freebie, here's a pic of our door for this month. The kids loved getting their hands painted for the mittens. :)

Then we finished up our arctic habitat unit and friday, we talked about polar bears, so here's me with a polar bear hat! :)
Now, on to the good stuff! I'm linking up with Second Grade Math Maniac for her Holiday Freebie party.

And also with Freebielicious for the freebie on the first!

My freebie for you is an ABC order worksheet. Our kids are working on this skill and are really excelling! :) They love doing it for morning work!
Click on the pic for your copy! And have a great day! I'm gonna print out the freebies I find and do some laminating while I rest up! :)
