Reading Street Game

Hey friends!
So at my school, we use Scott Foresman Reading Street for our reading curriculum. I have mixed opinions about the kinder version. It seems the upper grades get more resources with their kits, but oh well, I make what use I can with it. :)

In small groups, when I have extra time, I like to play word games with the kids. I created this spring-like word game that focuses on all the sight words from the reading series. Directions are simple and included in the game. Head over to my TPT store to check it out! :)

Ready for Break!

Hey friends! If you're like me, this is your first day off and you're taking advantage of a quiet house to get some school stuff done right!? haha, my husband had to work today so until he gets home, I'm sitting in my jammies catching up on making some school stuff and enjoying a cup of joe! :)

We had a great week! Our Thanksgiving performance went off without a hitch yesterday and I am so proud of my kinders for working their little tushies off to memorize all 5 poems/songs we sang and a reader's theater. It was a packed classroom and a great ending to the week!
On Monday, we did 3 rotations of fall themed workstations...
coloring scarecrow based on sight words
making thanksgiving booklet
And here's me demonstrating our turkey hats we made for the performance. I didn't get any pics of them singing, but some parents did so I can't wait to see them!

Finally, I created this winter themed sight word game that is now up in my TPT store. When we come back, I plan on really focusing on sight words in my reading groups, and they love playing these games. I was going to do a Christmas themed one, but this will take me all the way through January. Click on the pic to grab it from my store.

And since I haven't done this in a while, the first two to comment will get the game FREE! Good luck and enjoy your Wednesday! If you're traveling, (which we will be doing tonight) safe travels!!

Do you do Reading Street?

Hey friends! I hope those of you that went back to school this week had a great week...tomorrow is Friday! Whoo hoo! I did kinder screening yesterday and today. It went well...the kiddos were pretty nervous, but most were talkative and very smart! :)
So I was wondering, do any of you do Scott Foresman's Reading Street? We are implementing it this year and it seems like it could be a great program. Everything is basically laid out for you.
I started looking over the components and see that we have amazing words which are similar to vocab and then sight words. I'll add more to the list, because they don't do a whole lot, but it's a good starting block. So I think the program offers the word cards, but I like to cutesify everything up so I made my own. :) Both the sight words and amazing words are available at my TPT store! :) Okie doke, have a great day tomororrow..I'm off to workout!

Words are Magic!

Hello everyone! I'm going to make this post short because I have to get ready for the little sis to come and the weather is just beautiful out so I'd like to enjoy it! :) I am pretty much obsessed with DJ inkers, colors and card games so I created another game yesterday and the theme is magic kingdom. Basically it's a lot like the other card games I've been making lately, but the words are from the 2nd grade dolch list since my kiddos are moving more towards being second graders!
I will be giving 2 sets away to the first 2 people to comment!!

Also, I've been slowly working on our invitations. I know they won't need to be sent out until August, but I just can't keep myself from working on them and getting ideas. Here's a start so far. (the final copies will be on an antique paper so don't pay attention to the stark white) Also, I plan on buying pretty scrapbook paper and making a "belly band" to go around to hold all the pieces together. What do you think so far??

Groovy Baby!

My co-teacher drives a yellow beetle and it got me thinking of a groovy 60's sight word game. I created this just for her and am sharing with you to grab from my TN store! The way you play is have students take turns pulling from bag and reading word. If they read it correctly, they keep the card. If they pull a "peace out" card, they must return all their cards. The first one to get 6 cards wins the game. (Very similar to my pirate sight words a few posts back) Click on pic for link to store!

Currently and is it Friday yet?!

Hey friends! Whew! What a day! We had a meeting after school today that went longer than I thought it would and I left with a headache. :( I still have some kind of sinus cold. On a better note, I almost forget about the september currently that wonderful Farley always hosts! Here's mine..

So I decided instead of starting a new guided reading book on Fridays, I was going to start creating a bunch of literacy games to play with my groups as well as do running records. I just added this game to my TN store and it focuses on the first grade sight words. I hope you pick up a copy! Have a wonderful evening!

Back to School sight word game

hey everyone! I am super stressed with this move, but I needed to take a quick break and post on here a new game I made yesterday. It's perfect for your firsties and perhaps young second graders. Students take turns choosing a card and reading the word aloud. If they read it correctly, they roll a die and move that many spaces (you can make the playing pieces whatever you like). If they don't read it correctly, their turn is over. First to the finish is the winner. (I also created a backing for the cards that says buckaroo...just put it back in the printer to print the other side.) Simple, fun, effective :) I hope you like it! Go to my store for a copy!
