Measuring with Thumbs!

hey everyone! I hope you had a great week and are enjoying your Friday night. :) I've got about 7 more minutes before Four weddings comes on, so I'm gonna make this a quick post! haha. Today, I took my math lesson in a different lesson. I put each step on the smart board and we talked about the skill being taught..measurement. The activity was to use our thumbprints to measure across a heart. I went over each step and had the students repeat back to me. I wanted to see how they would do with the lesson, because sometimes math doesn't go as well as I planned. I think I will continue this method next week, putting everything on the smart board and including discussion questions. Here's the activity and how it came out. It was one of those great lessons and a great way to end a stressful week! :)

they had to write their guess first so they couldn't "cheat"
he did a great job and came very close!
they had to cut and glue before I gave them paint. I kept the lesson very neat and organized

Random Friday

Hey friends! Happy Friday!! Whew! What a week...I am finally linking up with Doodlebugs Teaching for her
fiveforfriday
I always want to do it, but never have enough pics. This week I've got a couple to share. Here we go!
1) Morning routine
We are having a hard time in the morning to remember our routines. Sooo, last night, I whipped up these posters and we talked about them at morning meeting today. The kids loved the clipart and they never comment on the little details like that so thanks to Melonheadz! haha, I will have to use that one more.

2) Ruby Bridges
We learned about Ruby this week in social studies and made writing girls. They came out so cute!!

3) Management
So I hope you can see this, but along with the mornings, we've had a super tough week in general so I made this second grade ppt and put all the kids names. Then we talked about how we need to start getting prepared for second grade and each day, I would be looking for great behavior and hard work, if they don't show it, I cross their name off the list! (ahh!) BUT they have a chance to redeem themselves and get uncrossed off...this continues until friday and each week, whoever is still on the list gets a special prize. (This week it was a pencil, next week they get to wear just socks in the classroom) It's seemed to work well so far. I hope it continues.

4) Measurement
We started nonstandard measurement in math and the beginning of this week, we practiced estimating and using pattern blocks to measure each item. This sheet I found through google, but can't remember the source. :/

5) Snowball fun
Again with measurement, we did "snowballs" to measure height. I just love his face in this picture!! hehe

Well, I'm cooking up tacos tonight! Yum! And tomorrow morning the future Mr. has to work, so I'm excited to get up early and finish my school stuff so we can head up to Greensboro for a while in the evening and I can relax on Sunday. My goal is to get things done ahead of time more often so I'm not constantly overwhelmed like I've been lately. I hope everyone has a great night! One thing I love about Fridays is TLC's Bride-day! lol That's what I'll be watching tonight! ;)

Some Updates

Happy Thursday! This week felt like it flew by! :) So my "interview" went well today..i think...It was only a meet and greet, but I noticed it only took 8 minutes! 8 minutes..are you kidding me?! They only asked 4 questions or so and I think I answered them pretty well, but it took 2 hours out of my day to do this today. :/ So I hope it went well...I was up against 80 others and then next week they will narrow down to 30 and call in for formal interviews then I think it gets narrowed down to 10 and everyone comes in to teach a lesson and finally, contracts are signed before memorial day! So a quick process and even though the meeting was a little weird, crossing my fingers I made an impression....

On a math note, here is a pic of one of my third grade students reviewing times tables. I laminated these cute monster problems (got from TPT although don't remember the creator at the moment) They love writing on anything that's not paper! Haha so this was perfect in they got to use overhead markers.
And finally, here are some pics of a first grade lesson I improvised  because I didn't have a lot of time with them today because the general teacher had them taking quizzes so my time was cut short. (Sometimes I hate that about Title, we're not treated as real teachers) But anyway, they are learning to measure so we traced our shoes..they thought it was silly that they got to take them off! :) And then measured them.

That's all for today! It's very hot out for May (86 degrees) so I have the air running full blast and I think I'll have a glass of wine (love Riesling) and finish my book. (Steve King The Dome---great if you've never read)
