Is it Just Us?

Hey everyone! I am just so frustrated. We had our grade level meeting after school today where all the first grade teachers from the district came together to talk. We are having so much trouble with math in particular this year. My district did not provide us with a pacing guide because they thought it would give us more freedom to plan our lessons. Well that's great, but in reality, we are lost and finding it very hard to teach sometimes. We have a huge assessment in the winter and a lot of us are just praying that whatever will be on it, our children will do decent in. It makes me so mad because I feel like I have no idea what I am doing this year and with all this switch to common core, they really haven't quite worked out the kinks yet so really...no one knows what they are doing.

But I'm going to get off my soapbox now...what I'd love to know is how are you/your district doing? Are you finding it just as hard as us?

  1. Hi Sarah,

Yes, I think we all feel your frustration. I teach first grade and we are the only grade level teaching common core this year. Next year more will hop on board. I did have the opportunity to go to some inservices, but what I came away with was a new way of teaching math. I am creating it all with my team mate and it takes a lot of time. I do feel like my kids have a deeper understanding of math and I love the slower pace, but we are spending countless hours planning. I was hoping other districts were ahead of us.
