Fact Families

Hey everyone!

Yesterday we did some work with fact families. Now we've been doing these since about December or so, but sometimes the kids still get confused. I thought we would review them and make fact family houses since I always tell them the numbers live in the house and no new ones can come in. So anyway, here's them hard at work!

This is a side note, but how many of you are running out of supplies already?! Our kids have practically no glue sticks and we don't really use them THAT much. haha. I sent home a note today for parents to buy more, but really...where is the glue going!? Ugh. Anyway...off to shower and get ready for tomorrow. Yay for specials. We only have them 2 days a week and I'll tell you, wednesdays and fridays are wonderful to get an hour and a half of planning and quiet in. ;)

Math Fun!

Good Morning! I wanted to share with you a little of the things we've done so far this week. The first picture is the completed marshmallow addition projects my kindergarteners worked on. They love it! (and really loved eating the extra marshmallows at the end!) The next few pics are my first graders playing an addition game. Over the weekend, I went to the dollar store and found these colored foam blocks. My mind starting thinking what to do with them and I decided to put numbers and equal/plsu signs on them. Then the kids put them together and made addition number sentences. :) Finally the last pic is my kindergarteners playing a number matching game with ice cream cones and scoops. They counted the dots on the scoopps and matched with the number. They really liked it! :)

A fun, Busy Wednesday

I want to post some pics of my day yesterday. We were busy in Title! The first 3 pictures show my 3rd graders completeting various center games. We had some extra time so instead of sending them back to class, I differentiated instruction based on what they still need to master. The last two pics show my little kindergarteners playing number bingo. I put a random number on the board and they had to count all their objects on their boards and cover up that number if they had it. Lots of fun! Then I had them be the teacher and I sat and played! They got such a kick out of that. :) Have a good Thursday...almost the weekend yay!

Hands on numbers

So yesterday, I had my kindergartners using play dough to make numbers. They love it! We also "sculpted" the answers to basic addition and subtraction facts.

I also posted a pic of my door right now. I love changing everything with the seasons or holidays (I think it keeps me sane from not looking at the same stuff day in and out! haha) I bought the snowmen at and education store. I didn't laminate them because I'm just going to give them to the kids when I put up V-day decorations. I also found a cute snowman font which you can't see well where the letters are made of snow and the inside circles are snowmen heads! :)

Rocket Math

Some of you may know the program called Rocket Math that helps kids to learn their math facts quickly. Well I started to use that and couldn't keep up with all the copying of the different pages. I modified the program and have found it's working a lot better! I created copies of each of the addition tables and had each of the students start with 1's facts. They complete all the facts in 1 minute and if they got all the problems right, they get a check. Once they achieve 3 checks I feel they have mastered that set and color in the corresponding number. Eventually we will move on to subtraction the same way. I think I might do the same for my third graders when they start learning multiplication. (note: I told the kiddos once they get the entire rocket colored in, they'll get a treat!)
